Jeff Swearingen Quoted in Wall Street Journal on ACA’s Influence to Drive Consolidation

“Specifically, implementation of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, which alters the way providers are reimbursed under Medicare, has driven consolidation among physician providers, particularly smaller ones,” said Jeff B. Swearingen, a managing director at health care-focused investment bank Edgemont Capital Partners.

“The pride of seeing [oneself] as a small-business owner is now outweighed by the reimbursement risks, the IT requirements and other complexities that providers are faced with in the current environment,” Mr. Swearingen said. “Physicians that would not have considered being part of a large organization five years ago are now considering it.”
