Professional Experience
I have spent my entire career focused on healthcare. I began as an accountant
with KPMG's Health Care and Life Sciences group, auditing the books of companies
within various sectors of healthcare and life sciences. After passing the CPA
exam and practicing for a few years, I concluded that I really enjoyed healthcare,
but that a Big Six (at that time) firm was a better place to be from. I joined
the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Volpe Welty & Company, soon to become
Volpe Brown Whelan, where I continued my focus on serving emerging growth healthcare
companies. I left Volpe Brown Whelan a few years later to experience working at
an operating company, joining McKesson in corporate development. At McKesson I
worked on acquisitions, divestitures, strategic partnerships and venture capital
investments. After several years (and three different CEOs), I left McKesson with
the realization that working with entrepreneurial, emerging growth healthcare
companies is what I really enjoy.
Favorite Professional Accomplishment
There have been several "home run" transactions that I have been lucky
enough to be a part of - transactions that effected either very positive change
or took clients to another level on their growth trajectory. I worked on a series
of acquisitions and a subsequent financing for a specialty pharmaceutical company
that transformed the company from a secondary UK exchange-listed company to a
dual-listed multi-billion dollar market capitalization company and one of the
leading specialty pharmaceutical companies. On the principal side, I was one-half
of McKesson's two person venture group that returned over three times invested
capital.
Personal
I was born and raised in the Bay Area and graduated from the University of California
at Santa Barbara with Honors, majoring in Business Economics. Until recently moving
to the Northeast, I was spoiled by a lifetime of California weather.
Other Life
My wife and I love to travel to foreign lands when we have the chance. She is
a practicing veterinarian in Connecticut.
Passions
The mountains, the bigger the better. Whether I am climbing up, snowboarding down
or mountain biking through, I never get tired of being in the mountains.
Secret Ambitions
To climb an 8,000 meter peak.
